Summer Fun in the Brazos Valley

11 06 2007

This weekend, my parents came into town for a visit. While Laura and I don’t feel burdened or obligated to entertain my parents when they are here, we do want them to enjoy their time with us. To this end we all went to see the Brazos Valley Bombers take on the McKinney Marshals at what used to be called (and will forever be to me) Travis Field.

While we were driving over I was a little nervous that it would be a real let down of an outing, but I was pleasently surprised and give it a much coveted RTSS endorsement of FUN for the following reasons:

  1. Players must use wooden bats so instead of an annoying “ding” fans are treated to a satisfying “crack.”
  2. $7 general admission tickets to sit in the bleachers ($9 for reserved, covered seats).
  3. Attractive logo and uniforms. I am not a fan of the baseballs falling out the bottom of the plane, but I was pleased to see those are not present on the ball-cap.

  4. Although not directly related to the game-time experience, the Bombers website is very well done.
  5. While I don’t approve of the objectification of women, I must give credit to the marketing department for the creation of the Bomber’s Bombshells (a-la Diamond Darlings of Olsen Field).
  6. Concessions which include Beer, Margaritas and Wine–I think I just peaked some of your interests.
  7. Party Deck! As I told my Dad as we passed by it, “What happens on the party deck, stays on the party deck.”
  8. Large number of Aggie and former Consol. players on the roster.

I plan on making more trips this summer to Travis Field. I also plan on getting a substantial kickback from the team owner if this post gets enough hits, so feel free to check back often to see if there are any “cool” comments!
